The brief

Refurbishment of a Historic Family Home.

This project involved the refurbishment of a period property, built between 1800 and 1911, including the addition of a contemporary rear extension. Located on the historic former Elm Grove estate, once home to Spencer Perceval, the project carefully balanced modern living requirements with the preservation of the property's original character. Our structural engineering solutions supported the successful transformation of this historic family home.

Scope of works

What we delivered

  • Rear extention with all new services
  • Refurbishment thoroughout
  • Bespoke kitchen, wardrobes, doors and windows
  • New patio and outside works

The challenges

Preserving Historic Character

A key challenge of this project was the careful restoration of the property's original heritage features. Many of the existing timber doors, windows and architectural details were meticulously removed, restored and later reinstalled as part of the refurbishment. This was a highly skilled and time-intensive process, requiring patience, precision and careful coordination to protect the historic fabric of the building. Every element had to be handled with exceptional care to ensure it was reinstated accurately and without damage, preserving the home's original character while accommodating the new extension and refurbishment works.

The outcome

A Beautiful Home Reimagined

The completed project has transformed this historic property into a stunning, contemporary family home while preserving its original character and charm. The new rear extension significantly increased the ground floor living space, creating a bright, open-plan kitchen and dining area that forms the heart of the home.
Externally, the landscaped garden provides a seamless extension of the living space, offering the perfect setting for summer evenings, outdoor dining and family gatherings. Combined with the full refurbishment throughout, every detail was tailored to the client's vision, resulting in a home that blends period elegance with modern comfort.
The result is a beautifully restored and extended property that not only respects its heritage but also provides a practical, stylish and welcoming space designed for many years of family life.
